Kim Townsend Defends WBC World Title at Destiny Muay Thai 30 in Brisbane
Destiny Muay Thai celebrated its 30th instalment in style at the Mansfield Tavern in Brisbane, delivering an action-packed night of Queensland Muay Thai with world-class performances, new champions crowned, and thrilling finishes throughout the card.
In the headline bout, Australia’s most accomplished female Muay Thai fighter “Lil K” Kim Townsend successfully defended her WBC Muay Thai World Light Flyweight Title, defeating the UK’s #4 world-ranked Shannon Kelly via unanimous decision. Townsend showcased her experience and composure across five rounds to secure her second defence of the WBC world title. The victory further adds to Townsend’s legendary resume, bringing her tally to 18 World Titles and reinforcing her status as one of Australia’s greatest Muay Thai fighters.

In the final bout of the evening, the WBC Queensland State Light Heavyweight Title produced one of the most dramatic moments of the night. Defending champion Corey Crittenden and Ipswich’s “Big Dee” Declan Goldthorpe traded heavily for five rounds before Goldthorpe landed a devastating elbow late in the fifth round that floored Crittenden for the knockout victory. With the win, Goldthorpe captured the WBC Queensland Light Heavyweight Title, becoming a two division WBC Queensland State Champion.

Another title changed hands in the WBC Queensland State Middleweight Championship bout. Defending champion Levi Steel attempted to secure his second defence against rising Gold Coast talent Jak Rishworth. After five competitive rounds, the fight went to the judges’ scorecards, where all three judges awarded the decision to Rishworth, crowning the Outback Muay Thai fighter the new WBC Queensland State Middleweight Champion. Big fights on the horizon for the new champion Jak in the talent rich Australian Middleweight division.

The heavyweight clash also delivered fireworks as former champion Callum Godfrey returned after an extended break to face Boonchu Gym rising prospect Max Lesech. Lesech proved too strong on the night, stopping Godfrey early in the fourth round to claim the WBC Queensland Heavyweight State Title. Lesech now holds both the WBC & WMC Queensland State Titles.

The remainder of the card showcased the depth of Queensland Muay Thai talent, with several exciting finishes and competitive bouts rounding out a memorable evening for the Destiny promotion.
