Destiny Muay Thai delivered its 31st event with an impressive action-packed fight card at the Mansfield Tavern in Brisbane, as defending champions and new champions emerged across five WBC Muay Thai title bouts.

Headlining the event was a major heavyweight showdown for the WBC Australian Heavyweight Title, which lived up to expectations and delivered non-stop action from start to finish in what could prove to be an early contender for Australian Muay Thai Fight of the Year.

Boonchu Gym’s Maxi Le Sech, the reigning WBC and WMC Queensland Heavyweight Champion, faced the toughest challenge of his career against experienced New South Wales veteran and former WBC Australian Cruiserweight Champion Jesse Astill.

Le Sech proved too big and too strong for Astill, scoring multiple knockdowns throughout the contest with relentless pressure and powerful combinations. After five entertaining rounds, Le Sech claimed a unanimous decision victory to become the new WBC Australian Heavyweight Champion in just his 13th professional bout. The win continues the rapid rise of the Gold Coast heavyweight and could potentially see him earn a place in the WBC World Rankings.

The semi-main event saw newly crowned WBC Queensland Light Heavyweight Champion Declan Goldthorpe make the first successful defence of his title against Urban Muay Thai’s Harry Ritter. Ritter returned from a short layoff and pushed the champion throughout a competitive contest, but Goldthorpe’s consistency and work rate earned him the decision victory.

One of the standout performances of the evening came from Gold Coast’s Dylan “The Machete” Zanetti, who accepted a title opportunity on just seven days’ notice and made the most of it. Zanetti stopped defending champion Jak Rishworth in the third round to claim the WBC Queensland Middleweight Title. With the victory, Zanetti now holds both the WBC and WMC Queensland Middleweight Championships, further cementing his status as one of Australia’s rising middleweight contenders.

Brisbane’s WBC Queensland Welterweight Champion Joe Greenwood also returned from a lengthy layoff to defend his title against Gold Coast challenger Owen Promkhiew. Promkhiew started strongly with aggressive boxing combinations, but Greenwood turned the fight in dramatic fashion when a sharp elbow opened a severe cut on his opponent’s forehead. Following a doctor’s inspection, the bout was waved off, giving Greenwood a successful title defence.

In the opening championship contest of the night, Ben Noller from Art of Eight Muay Thai dethroned defending champion Zac Lacarre-Covill of Ascension Muay Thai via decision to capture the WBC Queensland Super Lightweight Title. The victory adds another state title to the growing Art of Eight Muay Thai trophy cabinet.

The championship card highlighted the depth of talent within Queensland Muay Thai, with established champions, rising prospects, and future contenders all making statements throughout the evening. From heavyweight wars and dramatic stoppages to closely contested title fights, Destiny Muay Thai 31 once again reinforced its reputation as one of Queensland’s premier Muay Thai promotions.
