Kai Weate Jones vs Cassidy Haberfield Headlines Infliction Fight Series 38 on the Gold Coast
Muay Thai returns to the Gold Coast this Saturday night as Infliction Fight Series 38 takes place at the Royal Pines Resort, showcasing some of Queensland’s premier talent alongside interstate contenders. The card features a WMC Queensland State Title bout and a highly anticipated welterweight main event with significant implications for the Australian rankings.
Headlining the event is an all-Australian welterweight clash as Sydney’s newly crowned WBC Muay Thai Australian Welterweight Champion “Cobra” Kai Weate Jones of Sitshootshon Muay Thai faces Gold Coast favourite “Butch” Cassidy Haberfield, the WBC Nai Khanom Tom belt holder representing Fight Academy Australia. With the Australian welterweight division currently stacked with talent, the result of this bout could have major implications for the national rankings.
Kai Weate Jones enters the bout riding strong momentum after capturing the WBC Australian Welterweight Title just three weeks ago, defeating Adelaide’s Jason Scott at 1774 Muay Thai Series 13th Edition in Sydney. Weate Jones now steps in on late notice to challenge Haberfield after the original opponent, Albert “Baby Yod” Tu’ua, withdrew from the scheduled bout due to a knee injury suffered in training.
Standing across the ring will be Gold Coast fan favourite Cassidy “Butch” Haberfield of Fight Academy Australia. Haberfield holds the prestigious WBC Nai Khanom Tom belt and has built a reputation as one of Queensland’s toughest competitors with his aggressive forward pressure and technical striking. Fighting in front of a hometown crowd, Haberfield will look to use that support as he aims to derail Jones’ momentum.
The co-main event will see the WMC Queensland State Middleweight Title on the line as Strikeforce Gym’s Dylan “The Machete” Zanetti takes on Isaiah Helig from Big Monkey Muay Thai over five rounds. Both fighters bring aggressive and unorthodox styles into the championship contest, setting up an entertaining clash for Queensland state honours. With the Australian middleweight division rich in talent, a victory here could lead to bigger opportunities for the winner.
An international matchup also features on the card as two-time Australian Champion Kyl “The Bomber” Juler of 5 Star Fight & Fitness takes on experienced Thai fighter Chilli Surpan, who is based out of Fight World Gym on the Gold Coast. Surpan returns to Muay Thai after a stint competing in MMA, most recently challenging for the Eternal MMA Middleweight Title. The bout marks Surpan’s Australian Muay Thai debut, with fans eager to see how his aggressive style matches up against the explosive Juler.
With a deep undercard and a mix of rising prospects and established names, Infliction Fight Series 38 promises another exciting night of Muay Thai on the Gold Coast.
