All eyes were on Melbourne Pavilion on Saturday night as ROOTS 31: Rock Stone delivered a stacked night of emerging and established Australian Muay Thai talent, highlighted by a spectacular knockout in the main event.

The Super Lightweight headliner saw North Queensland standout and WMC Queensland Champion Sunny Mawer announce himself on the national stage with a statement victory over Melbourne favourite Jack Matthews.

Mawer produced one of the standout finishes of the year, landing a highlight-reel spinning backfist in the closing moments of the opening round that sent Matthews crashing to the canvas. Although Matthews survived the count, Mawer continued his momentum into the second round before securing the finish with a powerful right hand knockout.

The victory further strengthens Mawer’s reputation as one of Australia’s most exciting rising talents and adds another impressive performance to his growing resume.

In the co-main event, Victoria’s slick Thai stylist Dassakorn continued his rise through the professional ranks, securing the 14th victory of his career with a decision win over Sydney’s Kobe Sandilands.

The bout showcased high-level technical Muay Thai from both athletes, with Dassakorn’s timing, movement, and ring control proving the difference against the aggressive SRG Thaiboxing representative.

Another highly anticipated contest featured Hammers Gym’s undefeated prospect Mislav Horvat, who faced the toughest test of his career against SRG Thaiboxing’s Paul Steffens.

Steffens showcased his experience and composure throughout the contest, earning a well-deserved decision victory and handing Horvat the first loss of his professional career.

Elsewhere on the card, Alex Sorenson produced a stoppage victory over Quang Pham, while Callum Barber and Benedict Tivisini both recorded impressive first-round finishes.

The event once again highlighted why ROOTS has become one of Australia’s premier development platforms, providing valuable opportunities for the next generation of Muay Thai athletes to test themselves against quality opposition.
