Shannon Gardiner Secures Victory in WBC World Title Defence, Headlining MTGP Perth Event

Last night, Curtin Stadium in Perth was ablaze with International Muay Thai excitement as Muay Thai Grand Prix Australia returned for their first event of 2024, featuring a thrilling WBC World Title double header.

Defending her title, WBC MuayThai World Super Featherweight Champion Shannon Gardiner retained her crown, overcoming the formidable challenge of Lena Nocker, the World Ranked #2 Italian challenger, in a hard-fought battle that went the distance, with Gardiner emerging victorious via points decision.

In another International matchup, the vacant WBC World Featherweight Title found a new holder in UK’s Hannah Brady, who clinched the championship after a closely contested bout against Perth’s own World Ranked #3 contender Bryony Soden, securing victory by points decision.

Meanwhile, in the Super Welterweight clash, Western Australia’s Damon Nelson showcased his skill and resilience, emerging triumphant over Payak Samui after five rounds of intense action, marking a return to the winning column for Nelson.

Adding to the night’s excitement, UK’s rising star Alfie Ponting continued his impressive run by seizing victory over Perth-based Thai fighter Khumsab, claiming a WBC Nai Khanom Tom Challenge Belt
