Eruption Muay Thai 26 Fight Card: Albert Tu’ua vs Jayden Panucci
Eruption Muay Thai 26 lands at the Eagles Sports Complex on Friday, July 24 with one of its strongest cards to date, headlined by a blockbuster Australian welterweight showdown and a one-night four-man middleweight tournament.
The night’s biggest attraction sees Albert “Baby Yod” Tu’ua return against Western Australia’s Jayden Panucci, while four of Queensland’s top middleweights battle for tournament glory in one of the state’s deepest divisions.
Four-Man Middleweight Tournament
One of Queensland’s hottest divisions takes centre stage as Dylan “Machete” Zanetti, Ethan “The Berserkr” Lindsay, Mervyn “Swervyn” Shipway, and Isaiah Heilig battle it out in a one-night four-man tournament. To be crowned champion, one fighter must win two fights in one night, making endurance, adaptability, and composure just as important as skill.
With the 72.5kg division rapidly becoming one of Australia’s most competitive weight classes, the tournament winner will take a significant step towards establishing themselves among the state’s elite middleweights.
Albert Tu’ua vs Jayden Panucci
The main event features one of the biggest domestic Muay Thai matchups of the year. Australia’s most exciting Muay Thai fighter Albert “Baby Yod” Tu’ua returns to Eruption Muay Thai to face one of the country’s fastest-rising talents in Jayden Panucci. Panucci, the reigning WBC Western Australian Welterweight Champion, enters the contest riding a seven-fight unbeaten streak following a series of impressive performances that have quickly elevated him into national title contention.
Standing opposite him is former WBC Australian Welterweight Champion Albert Tu’ua, who carries a remarkable 10-fight winning streak into the bout. A multiple-time AUS MuayThai Knockout of the Year and Fight of the Year winner, Tu’ua has built a reputation as one of Australia’s most explosive and entertaining fighters.
With both men in career-best form, the winner will have a strong claim to the mantle of Australia’s No.1 welterweight.
Frank Giorgi Returns
One of Australia’s most decorated Muay Thai athletes, Frank Giorgi, returns to Eruption Muay Thai to face former WBC Queensland Champion Corey Crittenden.
The four-time World Champion brings an extraordinary 96-fight career that has included bouts against international stars including Buakaw, Nonsai, Marco Piqué, and Vuyisile Colossa.
Making his first appearance on Eruption Muay Thai since Eruption 18, Giorgi returns six years later looking to remind Australian fans why he remains one of the country’s all-time greats.
Two-time WMC Queensland Light Heavyweight Champion Harry Ritter returns to action against Bodhi Resetar of Suk Jai Muay Thai.
Resetar returns to Australia after an extended campaign in Thailand and will be eager to announce himself against one of Queensland’s most accomplished light heavyweights.
NTG Fight & Fitness lightweight Zekria Barati returns following an impressive Eruption debut. The Afghan prospect now faces the toughest assignment of his career as he takes on experienced 150-fight Thai veteran Petchdam from Nueng Muay Thai. Queensland’s undefeated prospect Mohamed Kenneh meets Strikeforce Gym’s Tayler Williams in a bout between two exciting young contenders. Originally from Liverpool, England, Williams now represents Australia and will be looking to hand Kenneh the first defeat of his career. Former WBC Queensland Champion Connor Gillen also returns to face Ballina’s Corey “Superstar” Sia-Townes, while fellow light heavyweights Oscar Barrett and Mitch Ettridge open the fight card.
